Scamper 45 Thunderbolt Racing Car No 200208 1/64th
These nifty little toys are the perfect example of what happens when a toy manufacturer attempts to create a toy from a photograph. On the packaging is a photo of a VehiCROSS in red, crossing a field (a similar photo was probably used by the sculpter to create the model) - the basic design doesn't look to bad from the same angle as the VX on the label, however when you look at the sculpt from any other direction it looks pretty bad. The cladding, hood insert, headlights and basic outlines are fine. It does appear that the sculpter used an existing SUV model for the general shape - so there are some surprising details such as the roof ridges. Obviously there was no photo of the rear of the truck for the model - so this little beastie has an offset spare and dual exhaust tips. The overall action if pretty nifty - this is one of those small RC kits you used to see in the mall kiosks - the dome display covers the plastic truck, while the base has a telescoping radio antenna with controls.
