To the Major Matt Mason Page A Story about Major Matt Mason
by Mark Courtney
I am always envious and somewhat amazed when I read others' stories of playing with the good Major as a child. While I had the toy and have been drawn to him/them/it for several years I don't specifically remember playing with him or any specific toy for that matter. I am not sure what that says about my childhood. I do have pictures of my playing with the crawler and Major (if I could only remember where I put those pictures!).

My story really begins several years ago when I was out of college and my fiancée (now wife) and I would walk through the antique malls looking for home goods. I was always hoping to find a MMM piece. It is really funny that I have had this underlying thought for all these years. Of course I have NEVER found a 'local' piece. It wasn't until several years ago when I first found the Big Red Toy Box that I saw anything regarding Matt aside from my own thoughts. I joined the MMM list and remained a 'lurker' for a long time. Later, when I first discovered ebay, the first thing I searched for was the Major. Sure enough there was one entry, a long way from today's 60-90 entries--I have been checking daily since.

I really don't know how to explain my attraction to MMM, but it is something that has been buried in me for many years -- perhaps suppressed memories of a simpler time. Now my son and daughter enjoy our collection as much as I do.

Take care, Mark
