Major Matt Mason Resources

This area of my site is devoted to getting connected with other Major Matt Mason collectors. Included are: eMail distribution lists, Message Boards, resources for Reproduction Parts, Restoration tips and pricing lists. There are also links to the Toy Story area of my site that features anecdotes from other collectors (here's a gathering of other collector's opinions and experiences.

E-mail Groups:
There are currently three Major Matt Mason e-mail groups:
  • MajorMatt@yahoogroups.com

This is a mildly moderated list that focuses on Major Matt Mason, space exploration and related topics. Excessive flaming is not tolerated. Being part of YahooGroups includes access to MMM links, free image upload, Online Chat, eMail archives, MMM Event Calender, File repository and more.

  • mmm@ncshoppingmall.com

This is the original MMM list, started by Don Thompson of the Big Red Toy Box, currently managed by Claude Switzer on his ncshoppingmall domain. While this list has the most members, discussions frequently erupt into excessive flaming and name calling. This is an unmoderated list and basically, anything goes. Join at your own risk!

  • mattmason@????

This list was originally created by Larry "the Sharkman" Chinn as a refuge for disgruntled ncshoppingmall members on OneList. OneList became part of YahooGroups so the list was moved to Topica. I'm not sure where the list currently resides, however it too, disolves into frequent name-calling and heavy-handed, non-related-topic conversations. If you can find it, enter at your own risk!
MMM Message Board:
This is a board hosted By Richard Hallack on his Virtual Vikki site...
Usenet:
There are currently no Usenet categories supporting Major Matt Mason toys as a stand-alone entity. Occasionally someone will post a message to rec.toy.vintage or rec.toy.gijoe, but this is rare indeed.

AOL Message Board:
There is an AOL message board with Major Matt Mason postings, but one has to be an AOL user to access it (I'm not, so I can't give a qualified description). I've heard that the original Web trading of MMM started here, long before eBay and Don Thompson's Big Red Toy Box.

MMM Newsletter:
Originally to be published bi-weekly, this e-zine, the MMM newsletter is published by Alec Peters. After 3 issues, the wait for a fourth has exceeded a year. Nevertheless, with articles written by various MMM e-mail list members, this is a good starting point for the new collector to obtain a complete Mattel product listing, find out about toy cleaning & restoration, or read articles about our favorite collectable. There's enough new stuff to keep the advanced collector occupied as well, so it's deserving of any MMM fan's mailbox. I've started an archive of past newsletters here, so new subscribers can get current quickly. Please ask Alec to put you on the list or join the MMM majordomo list as members automatically receive the i-zine.
